Hornsby House

2018 – 2019

Hornsby House was founded upon three principles

be bold, retain the old, fill with light.

The existing 1950’s redbrick home was and uninspiring and in need of new love. With a  tight budget, much of the existing house was retained with the new addition acting as a bold, juxtaposing form against the normalised form of the existing cottage.

With a north facing site, the extension employs expansive glazing that allows the natural light to flood the house.  The project both acknowledges the past, but looks toward the future. This once cold cottage is encompassed with a new warmth as the family grows with their new home
